Our County successes in 2021

2021 has been an exceptionally busy year for Staffordshire Squash. Here are some of our highlights –

The launch of the Staffordshire Squash Junior Academy – Monthly sessions have taken place at different venues across the county run by our experienced county coaches. Many thanks to all of our coaches who have made these junior sessions possible.

The launch of the Staffordshire and Central League – The league started in November, has been played in good spirits and has seen some great squash games to date. Many thanks to our Treasurer Jonathan for putting in all the hard graft and making it happen.

Our first Junior County Closed – This took place at Burton Manor Sports Association and was a momentous occasion. Well done to all our juniors that took part. Our junior county champions are as follows –

Under 9s – Finlay B

Under 11s – Nathaniel G

Under 13s – Jack A

Under 15/17/19 combined – Beth C

2021 has also been a great year for one of our Staffordshire Squash Junior Academy players Yasshmita JK. Yasshmita is on a squash scholarship at Tettenhall College, Wolverhampton where she is coached by county coach Chris Dawson during the week and head coach Fathi Seliman at weekends.

The 17 year old Malasian Yasshmita recently beat the world number 84 Alicia Mead and the world number 127 Katie Wells to reach the final of the Boston Open through in Lincolnshire, a PSA challenger event. She shocked her English opponents to set up a finals match between her and the world number 35 Julianne Courtice. Well done Yasshmita!
